Is Inaction an Action?

“If you place your head in a lion’s mouth, then you cannot complain one day if he happens to bite it off.” ~ Agatha Christie,  The Mysterious Affair At Styles
Do you sometimes take a step back on your life, try look at it from an outside perspective, and realize that you are not where you really want to be, or even should be, but that you feel powerless to change your course?
So many small changes have been happening, changes that seemingly do not feel so relevant, but all the changes added together are actually monumental.
I am in the midst of a very complicated situation.  I know it is complicated only because I refuse to make important decisions, and instead, am leaving everything to chance, to fate, to God’s will…

Is inaction an action?

  1. Hi Nova An interesting philosophical question you might like to expand upon is “refraining from doing something distinct from simply not doing something?” Therein perhaps lies the fine distinction between simply not doing anything (which you don’t really think much about) and deliberately refraining from doing something which then represents an action. Consider the situation where if you actively intervene you risk causing harm, but by not intervening this may also cause harm? They are no different in reality, so all one can attempt to do is to make the wisest possible choice. Not intervening or refraining from doing something may be what you consider is the best outcome. You have the wisdom to decide that action if you think it is the best for all concerned. Free will is you are free to decide what action you take – to intervene or not -to leave it to providence by not intervening. Best wishes

  2. I feel for you, it sounds like things are tough and that's never good :[I know you never asked for any advice, but what I would do, if in a complicated situation, is to ask any close friends for some advice, maybe what they've done in similar places. It doesn't mean you have to do anything different, but someone may say something that illuminates what's going on, and that may spark you into action.Maybe! Best of luck, M

  3. What I was trying to say is that in my own life I have all these things I want to do; publish a book if it's right to be published, but then I need a publisher, I want to build up practicing Chinese Medicine but I need a client base to make sure it's financially viable. Both of these things only really have ME in their way. I HAVE an online publisher now, I just need to finish the book. I HAVE people asking to be treated but I don't make the time to treat them. The major block in my progress is me. I sat and waited for the crazy things in my life to ease, for the 'right' moment then when it came around I sat and looked at it and said 'ah, now what?' It's not easy to get out of your comfort zone but if YOU are stopping progress then the only person that can change that is you. Trust your intuition. If you hear 'not yet' then wait in peace. If you hear 'gees it's about time' then maybe it's time. WM xx
