Tough Skin

I really have to develop thicker skin.

I’ve been feeling really good these last few months about myself. Despite my busy schedule, I’ve been waking up early every morning and exercising, and I’ve been eating sensibly. I’ve even dropped down to a size 2.

Seriously, it only takes a few words to shatter one’s (my) confidence.

As I passed by the reception desk this morning, the receptionist says, “Oh! Have you gained weight?”

I smiled at her and approached her desk. I thought she asked if I had lost weight. I was about to tell her my minor lifestyle changes and how happy I’ve been with how my clothes have been fitting, when she says, “Yeah, your face looks fuller. Have you gained weight?”

The disappointment must have shown in my face, because she quickly came back with a disclaimer.

“Oh, well, I haven’t seen you in awhile, so I don’t really know!”

I said, “No, I’m just always this chubby.”

Now I feel like stuffing my face, because what’s the point, right? After months of exercise and eating right, and people think I still look fat.

Either I stuff my face or don’t eat, ever again.

I just can’t win.

  1. \”…I just can't win.\”Only when you forget that you're losing weight for your own benefit and above all for yourself, not for the approval of others, especially other people who could very well be saying something out of jealous spite. I know it's brought you down, and I can tell by your post it's bothering you but, you're a size 2? If you lose anymore weight you'll be hard to see even in broad daylight.

  2. First off what kind of catty rude ass bitch would say something like that?!! Hell I am a guy and I even know better. Now being a woman she should DEFINITELY know better, so I have to wonder what her motivations are. Secondly, I probably would have turned to her and zeroed in on one flaw let it fly. have you thought about braces? Is that a zit or a goiter? You know you really shouldn't wash your hair ever know :-)Seriously, if you feel good about yourself that is what counts. I work out a lot and my weight fluctuates by 10 lbs all the time. One day you will feel bloated, but before you know stuff will be loose. The trick is to get over any oment of defeat quickly and forge ahead! Goooooooo NOVA -SAN!

  3. i do it too. people say nice things, but the first negative thing i hear, i zero in on it.why is that?i hate when that happens. i hate how i react in that situation, and i hate the way i feel.

  4. I honestly think that she said that after noticing that you've LOST weight. Typical jealous behaviour!!!Feel good about it and turn it into your own advantage. You know you've lost weight, and so did she. Jealous cow (oops) :DGood for you that you're living a healthy life. I wish I could keep it up too, but kind of lost track of myself in January (Mr E making me feel like road kill hahah). Keep it up and don't let jealousy get in the way of feeling great!!!!

  5. i totally agree with vic. there is no way anyone with a shred of decency would say something like that to you. those kinds of remarks are reserved for those whose opinions we seek. it was said to do exactly what it did. now let it go, and next time be aware early on that some people enjoy sabatoging us! don't give away your power to ANYONE!
