Shackles

The shackles of life are getting to me, and I’m growing weary of where I am at this stage of my life.  As a child, we all have dreams and aspirations of who we want to become and where we want to be, and what we want to achieve, and most of us grow up and grow old and come to realize that life falls short of our childhood fantasies.  But I suppose it’s better to reach for the stars, rather than the just the highest tree limb because to reach for higher means that we’ll jump that much more.

I am still not satisfied.  I want more.

I want to do something extraordinary in life.  Something so brilliant that my name will still be remembered long after my remains have been carried off by the wind.

I have much work to do.

———-

Pay It Forward was a really good movie.  I’m actually quite surprised that it didn’t receive much media attention.  I’ve only just seen it now for the first time, but the movie came out in 2000.

The main theme of the movie is the notion that an idea, however small, can make an enormous difference, and can literally change the world.  The thought presented in the movie is noble, albeit very challenging, and many may consider it moronic if it brings upon a personal sacrifice.  But if the idea is actually applied in real life, it could be the start of a new human evolution: one of a new selfless, human race.

I’m such an idealist.

  1. I heard of that movie… It’s also like a school project or something. Like, you do one good deed for someone, and instead of paying you back, you pass it on and so and so on… It was cute.
You are great. To me at least. I’ll always remember the name Nova. Because it’s pretty and cool, just like the person who has it.
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…

  2. Our childhood dreams are just a reach away.  I feel like you most days. I think that I made a mistake in choosing my career and what my dreams have in store for me is just slipping by.  If you are serious about wanting something different from what you have, I recommend taking action and work toward that dream.  I started Law school this fall, and you’d be surprised how much my life has changed now that I’m doing something I truly enjoy and care about.  Best of luck.
I agree with you,  Pay it Forward was an outstanding movie.

  3. I’ll echo the sentiments about the movie. I also enjoyed it. Anyhow, I think everyone wants to be remembered when they’re gone. Some think that their family is enough, others want the world to remember who they were. As for reaching for the stars…people should do what they want, what they get the most joy out of, in the end you’ll be doing something you really like, and might inspire someone else.

  4. I’ve found that one who is destined to do something great comes to that exact time and place gradually, through a series of events and after meeting key people. Idealist you may be but it’s obvious you’ve got enough fire in your belly to back up the talk. You know what you want, maybe not exactly but there are those moments when you find yourself wishing for something more. Maybe during one moment you’ll ask yourself, “what can I do to start making my way?”. Or something like that… And when you do, all bets will be off. You’re a pistol and a firecracker, pull off the goddamn safety! I recognize your kind, Nova. You dream the dreams and underneath it all *know* you have what it takes. You could walk out the door and never come back if you wanted to. But you keep yourself back. You punish yourself for some reason but what? Some of us carry grief and saddness for all our lives but neither takes priority over living itself. And inside you know this. You know you could shine so brightly it’d burn the vision away of all who lay eyes on you. Yet you keep yourself back. You *are* deserving. You were born deserving.

  5. I like the movie so much too and even hoped I could do the same thing–pay it forward…
Love to me is such a great accomplishment.  I have done a lot in my 30 years of existence and I am not happy because I have not love.  I would and I am working on getting love even if it means everything.  I have a reached a realization that all is nothing if you are not loved and you don’t love.  But this is just me.  Go for your dreams! We only live once…
